In the UK, an ESF-funded project is helping deprived young people discover their creative side
The LearnPlay Foundation is a visionary social enterprise that uses games-based technologies to make a difference to people’s lives. Based in the town of West Bromwich in the United Kingdom, last year it worked with 5 000 young unemployed people – without a single drop-out. LearnPlay releases the creative side of young people, through teaching the skills needed to design computer games and then letting them work together to conceive and test their own. LearnPlay offers them employment and learning opportunities as well as the chance to achieve something creative and meaningful. Games developed at LearnPlay are used in schools to improve literacy and by older people to allay dementia.
