In Slovenia, an online portal allows entrepreneurs to register a company within three days. The initiative was launched to make life easier for businesses by speeding up procedures and cutting red tape.

The portal makes available a set of online services including registration of a company, name reservation, VAT declaration or the creation of a temporary bank account.

The one-stop-shop currently connects 15 institutions in the country and is used by over 300 companies and more than 700 civil servants. The system is connected to six official databases and six different subsystems.

Training sessions and regular workshops for civil servants and employees of the governmental call centre ensure that users receive efficient support in using the service.

The portal became operational in February 2008 thanks to financial support from the European Social Fund (ESF). It has made a huge difference to companies and aspiring entrepreneurs in Slovenia. An upward trend in registrations and high user satisfaction shows that the available online services meet businesses’ requirements.

In 2009, the project has won the United Nations Public Service Award (UNPSA) in the competition of Northern American and European countries in the category improving the delivery of services in the public sector.
