Further education colleges in Germany are helping working professionals with a growing armoury of on-line degree courses
“Against the background of a growing demand for highly trained professionals we must mobilise all our educational resources to help individuals develop their full potential,” explains Professor Horst Hippler, President of the German Rectors' Conference. “Everyone who wants to study must have the opportunity to learn.” This vision is driving an expanding choice of on-line and part-time learning opportunities for busy, working professionals from further education institutions in Germany – even if they do not have high school diplomas or other ‘formal’ entry qualifications. Business studies in Essen and Kaiserslautern, or engineering in Darmstadt and Aschaffenburg – these are just some of the opportunities for distance and virtual on-line learning which, often with ESF support, enable working professionals to get the high-powered skills and Bachelor and Master-level qualifications their careers need. In fact, the only time they need to actually attend their university of choice is to sit the exams.
