Facts, Figures and Maps

The following links provide access to maps and charts that have been derived from the information submitted by Member States in the context of reporting. They are related to the Water Framework Directive (WFD) implementation reports published in 2007 and 2009 as well as the 3rd implementation report published in 2012.

coverMaps

River Basin District map (2012) (pdf ~7MB)

River Basin Districts (2007) (pdf ~1MB)
This map presents the national and international river basin districts as designated by Member States.

Transboundary cooperation (2012) (pdf ~6,7MB)
This map presents a preliminary assessment of the degree of international coordination and cooperation in transboundary river basins in the Europe.

Point and diffuse source pollution – rivers and lakes (2012) (pdf ~8,3MB)

Point and diffuse source pollution – coastal and transitional waters  (2012) (pdf ~7,5MB)

Hydromorphological pressures  – rivers and lakes (2012) (pdf ~6,3MB)

Hydromorphological pressures  – coastal and transitional waters (2012) (pdf ~7,7MB)

Surface Water bodies not at risk (as of 2007) (pdf ~1,66MB)

Groundwater bodies not at risk (as of 2007) (pdf ~1,63MB)
These two maps present the percentages of water bodies not at risk of failing to meet the WFD objectives as a result of the environmental analysis carried out in 2004. This means the percentages of water bodies that currently meet or will meet the objectives by 2015.

Heavily Modified and Artificial water bodies (2012) (pdf 9MB)

Heavily Modified and Artificial water bodies (as of 2007) (pdf ~1,61MB)
This map presents the percentages of water bodies that have been provisionally identified as heavily modified or artificial as a result of the environmental analysis carried out in 2004. If this provisional designation is confirmed, the river basin management plan will have to set alternative objectives for these water bodies.

Agricultural pressures (as of 2012) (pdf ~7MB)

Surface Water Monitoring Stations (2012) (pdf ~11,6MB)

Surface Water Monitoring Stations (as of 2009) (pdf ~ 11,8Mb)

Groundwater Monitoring Stations( 2012) (pdf ~ 10Mb)

Groundwater Monitoring Stations (as of 2009) (pdf ~ 11,5Mb)
These two maps present the WFD monitoring stations in rivers, lakes, transitional waters, coastal waters and in groundwater as reported by Member States (status: March 2009).
