Drinking Water

Monitoring

Member States have the obligation to ensure that regular monitoring of the quality of water is carried out in order to check that the water available to consumers meets the requirements of the Drinking Water Directive.

To meet the monitoring requirements, appropriate monitoring programmes have to be established by the competent authorities. The Drinking Water Directive laid out minimum requirements as regards the monitoring programmes in its Annexes II - Monitoring and Annex III - Specifications for the analysis of parameters.
