Deadlines

For the 15 Member States which were part of the EU before 2004 (EU-15):

November 2003: In accordance with the provisions of Article 14 of the Directive, Member States would have taken the measures necessary to ensure that the quality of water intended for human consumption complies with the Directive.

November 2008: The Directive provides for a separate conformity deadline for bromate and trihalomethans (Annex I, Part B, Notes 2 and 10).

November 2013: The Directive provides for a separate conformity deadline for lead (Annex I, Part B, Note 4).

For the 12 Member States which joined the EU in 2004 and 2007 (EU-12) and Croatia which will join in July 2013:

New Member States had to comply with the Directive by the day of accession unless specific implementation deadlines were laid down in the Accession Treaties. Transitional periods, if provided for, can be found for:
