Study on the implementation of the Packaging Directive and options to strengthen prevention and re-use (2004)

In the recent revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC, the European Parliament and the Council have called upon the Commission to prepare a report on the implementation of the directive. The text of this clause can be found here.

In order to prepare this report, the Commission services have commissioned the present study on the implementation of Directive 94/62/EC on Packaging and Packaging Waste and options to strengthen prevention and re-use of packaging. The terms of reference of this study can be found here (pdf~80K).

During the preparation of this study, consultation of stakeholders was a key element. Stakeholders were invited three times via an open call for comments on the Commission's website to comment on the interim report (pdf~1,6MB)) (the comments received can be found here, the revised chapter on re-use of the interim report (the comments received can be found here (zip file ~1,3M)) and the draft final report the comments received can be found here (zip file ~7,1M). Furthermore, two expert workshops were held, one one 26 May 2004 (the minutes can be found here (pdf~320K)) and another one on 7 July 2004 (the minutes can be found here (pdf~240K)).
