Giorgio Squinzi, born in 1943, holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry at the Università degli Studi of Milan and a "honoris causa" degree in Chemical Engineering received by Politecnico of Milan.
He is CEO of Mapei, an industrial group specialized in chemical products for building, since 1984.
He has been President of Federchimica, the Italian Federation of the Chemical Industry from 1997 to 2003 and from 2005 to June 2011.
He has also been President of CEFIC, the European Chemical Industry Council, from September 2010 to September 2012.
He is currently President of Confindustria the Italian National Employers' Association, for the four years 2012-2016.
Before this nomination, Giorgio Squinzi was already a member of Board of Directors and Committee of Confindustria, Vice Chairman appointed to technological innovation and research from July 2003 to May 2004 and President of the Technical Committee for Europe since May 2010.
