Online survey seeks views on improvements to environmental quality standards

Survey open until 30 April 2013

The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) is running an online survey about stakeholder needs concerning environmental management system standards. The results of the ISO 14001 Continual Improvement Survey will be used to inform the upcoming editions of ISO 14001 and ISO 14004, both of which are internationally recognised environmental management standards. The survey will gather information on key topics that have arisen from discussions in the working groups that are revising the ISO 14000 family of standards. One of the major goals is to align the 14001 standard with a new High Level Structure for Management Systems (part of ISO Guide 83), thereby encouraging senior managers to demonstrate environmental leadership. In turn, this will ensure that internal and external business drivers, such as customer desires, competitive positioning and an organisation’s core values, will be considered alongside environmental management.

The survey is aimed at individuals and organisations that have implemented, or applied for, accreditation to both standards. It may also be of interest to Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) registered organisations, many of which use the ISO 14000 standard as a stepping stone to the more advanced EMAS tool. Other individuals with a working knowledge and interest in the standards are also encouraged to participate, including certification bodies, regulatory agencies, academia, and trade associations.
