The annual World Water Week conference is organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and takes place in Stockholm. World Water Week has been an annual conference since 1991 and over 2,500 participants attend each year. It provides a platform for energy and water professionals from the science and research communities, governments, international organisations, civil society and the private sector to exchange views, experiences and practices to help shape joint solutions to global water challenges.
The conference will feature plenary sessions and panel debates. There will also be workshop sessions for individuals to present their scientific findings and will be complemented by keynote speakers. Organisations can host seminars and side events that cover the broad spectrum of the water community and those that expand on this year’s theme. Last year, more than 200 organisations from around 130 countries collaborated in the organisation of seminars and side events.
During the week, the Stockholm Water Prize, the Stockholm Junior Water Prize and the Stockholm Industry Water Award will be given out at their respective award ceremonies.
The World Water website is a year-round resource providing a virtual tour of World Water Week through video clips and photographs from sessions. In addition, presentations, reports and outcomes from previous years can be downloaded. In April, SIWI will publish the preliminary programme for 2014 World Water Week on the website.
