World Water Day 2014 is being coordinated by the United Nations University and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation on behalf of UN-Water. Working closely with Member States, it will focus on inequalities in water provision, particularly for the 'bottom billion' people who live in slums and impoverished rural areas, surviving without access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, sufficient food and energy services.
It will also address simplifying the development of policies and frameworks that unite ministries andsectors, ensuring energy security and sustainable water use in a green economy. Particular attention will be paid to identifying best practice that can make a water and energy-efficient 'Green Industry' a reality.
