World Water Day, organised by the United Nations (UN), is held annually on 22 March to focus on the importance of freshwater resources and their sustainable management. The campaign’s main UN event will be hosted by the Dutch Government in the Netherlands and will be coordinated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). A High-Level Interactive Dialogue of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly will also be held in New York on the same day to mark the 2013 International Year of Water Cooperation. During the year, stakeholders will organise a range of social, political, cultural, educational and scientific events to highlight the need for countries to work together to manage the growing global demand for water access.
