The International Conference on Waste Management and the Environment is organised every two years by the Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT). It is sponsored by WIT Transactions on Ecology and the Environment, and the International Journal of Sustainable Development and Planning. The Conference provides an opportunity for professionals, researchers, government departments and local authorities to exchange scientific information and discuss the work regarding the current situation in waste management. Awareness of the damaging effects of waste disposal methods is growing and a shift towards greater accountability for effective waste management is being realised. As such, more research on disposal methods such as landfills, incineration, chemical and effluent treatment, recycling, waste incineration, clean technologies, waste monitoring, public and corporate awareness, and general education is needed. Due to the growing volume and complexity of discarded domestic and industrial waste, waste management is one of the key problems in the modern society.
Conference topics will cover: environmental impact; reduce, re-use, recycle and recover (4Rs); cost and benefits of management options; waste incineration and gasification; energy from waste; industrial waste management; nuclear and hazardous waste; agricultural waste; wastewater; eWaste; landfill optimisation and mining; remote sensing; thermal treatment; emergent pollutants; environmental remediation; legislation and behavioural issues.
There will be space for organisations to display products, services and literature related to the theme of the conference. Further details are available from the Conference Secretariat.
