The role of DG RTD is to implement EU research and innovation policy to help achieve the goals of the Europe 2020 strategy for growth and sustainability and the Innovation Union, which is the EU’s strategy to create an innovation-friendly environment that makes it easier for great ideas to be turned into products and services that will bring economic growth and jobs. At a time of increasing energy prices, carbon restrictions and competition for resources and markets, innovation in resource efficiency contributes to improving the quality of Europe’s environment, in addition to generating new jobs and market opportunities.
At the event, a group of five companies (four of which are small and medium-sized enterprises) will demonstrate pilot projects identifying new innovative eco-solutions and ideas for a more effective European economy. This will contribute to improving resource efficiency by reducing waste and reusing what can be salvaged during the production cycle.
This event is the second Joint Kick-off Meeting for Resource Efficiency. Eighteen projects were launched in October 2012 involving funding of more than 61 million euros.
