The European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) is holding its bi-annual conference on how sustainable waste management can contribute to a resource‑efficient Europe. The conference is being organised by FEAD in cooperation with the Belgian waste management association, FEBEM-FEGE. The event consists of two sessions: ‘The Right Framework Conditions for Ensuring Resource Efficiency in an Open Market’ and ‘The Revised Waste Framework Directive – Are we on the right path to meet the 2020 milestones?’
Conference speakers include Karl Falkenberg, the Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate General Environment, and Julio Garcia Burgués, who is Head of Unit Waste Management at DG Environment. The day before the formal conference sessions (24 April), participants will have the opportunity to attend a site visit at the Shanks industrial sorting installation for construction and demolition waste and refused fractions from other sorting plants.
