Newsflash no. 78, December 2009: "We are all in this together"- The European Commission’s Biodiversity Campaign
In 2001, the EU undertook to halt the decline of biodiversity in the EU by 2010 and to restore habitats and ecosystems. In 2006, the European Commission adopted the ‘EU Action Plan to 2010 and Beyond’. In line with this plan, the European Commission will launch an EU-wide awareness raising campaign in 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity. The goal of the campaign is two-fold: its aim is to raise awareness on the loss of biodiversity but also to show how to slow it down and turn the loss around. Read more about it in our newsflash.

Newsflash no. 77, November 2009: The Run up to Copenhagen - Communication Before and After the Event
In the context of the upcoming COP 15 in Copenhagen in December, the question of how to communicate climate change effectively is more present than ever. Among researchers there is consensus that emission targets can only be achieved by combining policy making with strategies that engage citizens at a personal level. It makes therefore sense to have a look at the latest scientific findings that can give some indications on how to best communicate on climate change. Newsflash no. 76, October 2009: Green Spider Network Best Practice Competition - Communication Initiative of the Year Award
An ambitious Hungarian initiative with the aim of raising awareness on biodiversity has won this year’s ‘Communication Initiative of the Year Award’, launched in 2006 by the Green Spider Network as an annual best practice competition in environmental communication. The project recognised with the award was established by the Hungarian Ministry of Environment and Water in 2004 and has since then involved a big annual thematic event on biodiversity. This year’s initiative, dedicated to agro-biodiversity, comprised a nation-wide fairy-tale writing competition and a 3-day biodiversity weekend. Find out more about it in our newsflash.

Newsflash no. 75, September 2009: Communicating about Climate Change
Engaged in an extraordinary number of diverse activities to fight global warming, Jill Peeters won this year’s C3 - Climate Change Communication Award aimed at promoting best communication practice on awareness-raising activities undertaken by members of the CBN-E, Climate Broadcasters Network. Besides a presentation of the winner's activities, the newsflash will also provide you with an overview of the first annual World Climate Broadcasts Forum that took place in the framework of the WCC-3.

Newsflash no. 74, August 2009: Dialogue for Nature Conservation
The importance of nature conservation is today commonly accepted, but the implementation of conservation policy is sometimes less straightforward as it involves many different stakeholders with diverse interests and backgrounds. The Swedish EPA has therefore implemented a ‘skills development programme’ for dialogue, participation and conflict management for government employees involved in the field of nature conservation and wildlife management. Newsflash no. 73, June 2009: Green Week 2009 - Climate Change: Act and Adapt! - Special Issue!
The 9th edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference event on European environmental policy, will take place from 23 to 26 June 2009 in Brussels on the theme of climate change. It will prepare for the U.N. climate change conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 by introducing some key debates. Green Week 2009 will focus on four topics: “EU climate policies”, “The international dimension”, “Living with climate change” and “2050 Vision: a carbon-free society”. Newsflash no. 72, June 2009: Special Report on Article 6
This newsflash focuses on the recent European Regional Workshop on Article 6 of the UNFCCC. Climate change communication specialists from across Europe gathered at the Stockholm event to share best practices and prepare for Copenhagen. Children and young people were a key issue at the workshop and are an increasingly important target for climate awareness campaigns.
