This website is part of a European Commission initiative that started in May 2002 to provide an overarching secretariat for all European networks that are active in the field of public information, communication and awareness raising about environmental issues, and who cooperate with DG Environment on a regular basis.
Supports networking
The EECN secretariat has a number of roles:
- to create a common organisational structure to support the
operation of the networks which do not have their own secretariats;
- to support cooperation and coordination between DG Environment
and the networks, as well as among the networks themselves;
- to serve as an interface between the European Commission,
the networks and other key stakeholders and as a contact point
for enquiries.
