Embracing Estuaries - Management of Natura 2000-Sites in Estuaries and Sea Ports
Dates: 15 - 16 September 2016
Location: Hamburg, Germany
Stiftung Lebensraum Elbe (Elbe habitat foundation) will organize this 2-day event in cooperation with the Behörde für Umwelt und Energie and on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Environment. Eurosite will lead the involvement of the consortium with full support from the other partners.
In December 2012, at the Atlantic Biogeographical Seminar, all member states were asked to propose specific recommendations for improving the conservation status of priority target habitats and, where possible, to initiate cross-border activities. As the leader of the working group on estuaries Germany has offered to organise a thematic networking event on Natura 2000 estuary management planning.
The networking event is meant for the experts from EU member states from the Atlantic Biogeographical Region, involved in the implementation of NATURA 2000 in estuaries and sea ports, as well as representatives of the European Commission and cooperating institutions. The organisers expect to welcome attendees involved with or interested in any topic related to estuaries management like port authorities, water management bodies, coast management bodies, environmental organisations, local/regional governments, etc. Any organisation with ideas, problems and solutions regarding estuaries management will be welcome.
The workshop will provide a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere to encourage dialogue between scientists, practitioners and policy makers, and to encourage collaboration on the challenges of management of Natura 2000 sites in Estuaries and Sea Ports.
Main topics of the workshop are:
- Natura 2000 management plans – integrated approach & implementation
- Habitat restoration
- Legal issues
