LIFE Closing conference “Coastal Dunes: comparison between tuscan management experiences”

The LIFE project "Conservation of ecosystems in northern Tuscany " (LIFE05 NAT/IT/000037) is organising its final conference which will be held on the premises of the Park of San Rossore Massaciuccoli (Pisa, Italy) on the 4th December 2009 . The objective is to present the results of the project and to feed a debate on the safeguard, preservation and management of sandy coastlines and dune zones. The conference is composed of a morning session that focuses on the DUNETOSCA project (actions, problems, results and future prospects), whilst the afternoon session will give an overview of other experiences developed in Tuscany on the management and conservation of coastal dune eco-systems.

Towards new methods to manage nitrate pollution within the Water Framework Directive

LIFE project "Improved management of nitrate pollution in water using isotopic monitoring" (LIFE06 ENV/F/000158) is organising a two day workshop at the UNESCO in Paris. The main aims of the worshop are to present and evaluate innovative techniques that manage nitrate pollution in the framework of the WFD and demonstrate the added value of isotope techniques and their potential applications and limits for nitrate pollution control.

The events also aims to:

  • Address the mainstream and innovative scientific approaches in nitrate monitoring ;
  • Present and discuss alternative methods in supporting stakeholders in managing nitrate pollution;
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer between scientists and water stakeholders.
