The aspiration of this conference is to provide a forum where ideas can be discussed across disciplines. Topics might include the following where river restoration or habitat enhancement is an integral part of the project: Flood risk management working with natural processes; climate change proofing; river basin projects ; benefits and effectiveness of schemes for habitat enhancement ; indicators for appraisal and evaluation; urban regeneration; planners and urban design.
A programme will be prepared and circulated in the New Year along with details of the conference costs. It is aimed to keep costs as close to those in 2008 as possible (i.e. circa £275 for an RRC member as a residential participant).
This is a possibility for LIFE projects to contribute. If you are interested in presenting a paper or poster please send your abstract to the river restoration centre by 7 November 2008.

Illustration by Jens The LIFE Nature Project REMAB: Restoration of Meadow Bird Habitats (LIFE06 NAT/DK/00158) is organising an international seminar on restoration and management of meadow bird habitats in order to share experiences on restoration and management of salt meadows and to disseminate experiences gained in the project.
The overall objective of REMAB is to improve meadow bird habitats and especially the breeding conditions for Dunlin (Calidris alpina schinzii) and Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) at four key sites in Denmark. Due to the REMAB project, suitable water levels for meadow birds will be re-established by counteracting previous draining efforts.
Areas overgrown with trees, bushes or reed will be cleared in order to re-establish meadows bird habitats. Predation from foxes will be reduced and management of meadows will be facilitated by establishment of a Grazing Society and development of a management plan.
Many actions in the REMAB project are implemented following a participatory approach through cooperation with landowners. For more information on the seminar and to register, please visit the event website.
