The first LIFE Nature ‘best practice’ conference took place in Brussels on 17-19 November 2008. "Protecting Europe’s Nature: Learning from LIFE" examined the role of the Nature component of the EU's LIFE programme as an instrument to support the implementation of the EU birds and habitats directives and the Natura 2000 network, encompassing the Commission Communication on "Halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010 – and beyond".
