International Issues

Bilateral and regional cooperation

Industrialised economies - Canada

The EU relationship with Canada is based on common values and a shared commitment to tackle global environmental challenges that threaten the future of our planet.

EC-Canada High Level Dialogue on Environment. Bilateral co-operation on environment with Canada dates back to 1975 when periodic high-level consultations were established to review progress on common environmental concerns. These high level consultations on the environment co-chaired by DG Environment and Environment Canada normally take place every 18 months. The latest meeting was held in Brussels in March 2014. The meetings provide an opportunity to exchange information on environmental policies and programmes, to compare views on multilateral developments and to enhance bilateral co-operation.

Between high-level meetings there are regular working and expert conultations with Canada on a wide range of environmental issues.

Environment is an important theme in the annual EU-Canada Summits.
