Status
A National Report consisting of a proposed national strategy with an assessment/stocktaking section was officially submitted to the European Commission on 17 May 2006.
Finland has had a comprehensive spatial (land-use) planning system for a long time. In the submitted ICZM Strategy, this system is proposed as the main instrument for ICZM implementation.

In Finland, there is no single authority for coastal
zone management and planning. The Ministry of Environment
is responsible for national environmental policy and
issues related to marine environment protection in general.
The Land-Use Department is the responsible body for
ICZM and sustainable development.
