Five workshops on GPP

The ICLEI European Secretariat organised, on behalf of the European Commission, five workshops on Green Public Procurement. The workshops took place between October 2006 and February 2007 in Lisbon, Dublin, Bologna, Avilés and Athens. Detailed information and background material can be found on the workshop website
ITC ILO/UNEP Workshop on Sustainable
Procurement: Economic, Environmental and Social Considerations
in Public Procurement
The International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC ILO), in
collaboration with the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP), has
launched this one week workshop, whose
first edition will take place at the ITC ILO Campus in Turin
between 26 and 30 March 2007. The workshop will be then delivered
twice annually on a regular basis. Its main objective is to
contribute to improved capacity in the conceptualization and
implementation of environmental and social considerations in
procurement, in line with internationally accepted principles
and practices.

GPP Roundtable in Hamar

On 8-9 November 2006, the Norwegian city of Hamar hosted the International Roundtable on Developing Public Procurement Policies for Sustainable Development and Innovation. The meeting contributed to the elaboration and implementation of policies for sustainable development that also promote innovation.

Back to back with the roundtable was the third meeting of the Marrakech Task Force on Sustainable Public Procurement. This informal group of countries and organisations works together on specific issues of Sustainable Consumption and Production.
Cremona Fair: Green Purchasing International Forum Compraverde-BuyGreen, 9-10 October 2008
The Forum has the following objectives:
- promoting a widespread culture of Green Purchasing, through the most recent updates of policies and orientations in this field and through highly qualified training on the Green Purchasing
procedures to public and private (profit and non-profit) operators;
- “showcasing” and exchanging good practices for public administrations, entreprises and non-profit organizations;
- fostering confrontations and relations between public institutions, enterprises and organized civil society, through the development of new models and projects and the development of innovative networks

EcoProcura 2006, Barcelona, 20-22 September 2006
The EcoProcura 2006 Conference promoted exchange amongst local government purchasers in particular, but also purchasers from regional and national governments and from the private sector. EcoProcura® Barcelona fostered a dialogue amongst suppliers, policy and decision-makers, multipliers, and offered the latest information on practical solutions for implementing sustainable procurement.
It included the presentation of the Local Authority EMAS and Procurement (LEAP) Project Results as well as the 2nd International Green Purchasing Conference.
Green Public Procurement – Turning policy into practice!, Graz/Austria, 3-4 April 2006

The launch event gave public purchasers, suppliers and other stakeholders the possibility to formulate questions regarding GPP or discuss relevant opportunities. In addition, a demonstration of best practices by purchasing authorities which have already gone "green" took place, aiming at convincing participants of the many benefits of green public procurement.
1st International Conference on Green Purchasing, Sendai/Japan, 5-8 October 2004
The Sendai conference had three major aims:
- To share the latest domestic and international information on green purchasing and discuss its future direction
- To announce the Green Purchasing Sendai Declaration to the world, which serves as a guideline for promoting green purchasing
- To establish a network that promotes global collaboration on efforts towards green purchasing
