Funding opportunities

The Commission provides funding to projects and initiatives that promote its policy priorities throughout the European Union and further afield. The Directorate-General for Environment makes funding available through the LIFE programme and occasionally, some pilot projects and/or preparatory actions on Environmental policy included annually in the EU budget.

The LIFE programme is the European Union’s financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the Union. Since 1992 LIFE has co-financed some 4,000 projects. More…
LIFE also provides financing opportunities in form of loans or equity investments for revenue-generating or cost-saving pilot projects promoting the preservation of natural capital, including climate change adaptation projects, through the Natural Capital Financing Facility (NCFF). More…

LIFE also finances some grants for non-governmental organisations active in the field of the environment because they are key players in the development and implementation of environmental policy. They are important channels of information on the concerns citizens have on the environment and they contribute to raise citizens' awareness on specific environmental issues and policies. Environmental NGOs are also valuable intermediaries in the Commission's work. Some grants are awarded each year to various NGOs to facilitate their work. More...

In this framework, funding opportunities exist through grants (see the grants page or the latest news in this section). The Commission also finances procurement contracts (see the calls for tender page in this section).

Extracts of the last work programmes mentioning the expected calls for proposals and the tenders are the following:

Funding opportunities related to the pilot projects and preparatory projects managed by DG Environment can be found in the grants and calls for tender pages.
