New administrative arrangement with JRC

A new administrative arrangement has been concluded with JRC for a pilot project on forests and protection conservation and assistance to DG ENV in the context of future forest fire prevention measures (post 2006).

The new Administrative arrangement covers 3 areas:

1) Continue and further develop a forest fire information system
2) Promote measures to prevent and combat forest fires, especially in regions classified as high-risk, as an extension of measures provided under former Regulation (EEC) No 2158/92.
3) Investigate the causes and consequences of fires which have been particularly serious in recent years, in particular in the European Forestry sector.
