On the 12th January, The mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Javier Maroto inaugurated Zulueta Palace as the headquarters for Vitoria-Gasteiz’s year as European Green Capital. This landmark building, located on the Paseo de la Senda 2 and former headquarters of the Fundación Sancho el Sabio (an organistaion that documents the heritage of the Basque region), will now host major events and meetings for the year as well as being the location for the technical team who are developing the Cities green programme- bringing together technical, experts and thinkers to help drive the European Green Capital project.
Zulueta, thus becomes a laboratory of ideas for the European Green Capital.
“The seat of the Palacio de Zulueta will be a meeting place for citizens and those who come to our city. We are the city that we all like to live and so, our idea is that this site shows that we has earned this award and what are the initiatives that will leave the city prepared for the coming years, so that after 2012 Vitoria continues to show the world the demand and environmental leadership, “said the Mayor.
City Council member also made reference to the responsibility that Parliament has given to Vitoria-Gastiez to be an example for other European Cities, in terms of the path it has taken under its green transformation and the future employment opportunities that it will provide for
