Watch the 2018 European Green Capital Award Handover Ceremony

Nijmegen in the Netherlands is officially becoming the European Green Capital for 2018 at the Handover Ceremony taking place on 20 January. Essen in Germany, winner of the 2017 award, will pass on the prestigious title to Nijmegen.

The first Dutch city to hold the European Green Capital title, Nijmegen has shown itself to be a leader in a number of key environmental areas. The city was particularly commended for its cycling infrastructure, its ambitious targets for energy reduction, its water and waste management and its commitment to citizen engagement.

The ceremony is part of the Wondertuin Festival, a three-day event kicking off Nijmegen’s green year. Find out more about what Nijmegen has planned for 2018 in its programme of events.
