European Green Capital Award

The European Green Capital Award aims to encourage cities to commit to ongoing and ambitious goals for further environmental improvement and sustainable development. The award is assessed on the basis of twelve environmental indicators evaluated by an Expert Panel and waste production and management is one of these indicators. Recycling is seen as a key measure to decrease the amount of landfilled waste and prevent the unnecessary extraction and import of materials.
