World Green Infrastructure Congress 2013
9th – 13th September 2013, Nantes, France
The World Green Infrastructure Congress (WGIC) 2013 will take place from 9th – 13th September at La Cité Nantes Events Centre in Nantes, the current European Green Capital. This international meeting is being organised jointly by ADIVET, the French association promoting green roofs and walls; and the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN). The five-day event will bring together representatives from many different sectors, such as construction, industry, landscape architecture, research and urban planning; all of whom are involved in developing green infrastructures.
The congress will provide a platform for debate, and to exchange practices and experiences on the latest trends of green building with over 30 sessions scheduled led by international keynote speakers. According to the organisers, the packed programme for WGIC 2013 will explore working on different levels: on a level of the building itself, its supporting structure (roofs and walls) and its components, even at particles and cells to see how they generate the physico-chemical and biological phenomena.
Apart from presenting a number of inspiring examples from across the world, showing how green facades and rooftops have been put in place – for instance the roof garden at a shopping mall in Singapore. – Some of the topics that will be discussed at the meeting include: biodiversity, technique and innovation, thermal efficiency, vegetation, water quality and water management.
This event is one of a full year of activities planned in Nantes for its year as European Green Capital 2013. This European Award was conceived as an initiative to promote and reward the efforts of cities the play a key role in making the environment greener and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
