Smart City Event
13th – 14th May 2014, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
The Smart City Event will take place on 13th – 14th May 2014 at Amsterdam Arena in The Netherlands. The Smart City Event aims to bring together a wide range of stakeholders from all over the world concerning the development of smarter cities. The event is divided into three elements: Smart City, Smart Health and Smart Mobility. Participants can choose the topic that fits their interest and/ or expertise best.
The conference will provide a platform for more than 50 international speakers to share their insights among them:
- Rob van Gijzel, Mayor, City of Eindhoven, Chairman, Intelligent Community Forum
- Anthony Townsend, Institute for the Future and author of the book “Smart Cities: Big Data, Civic Hackers and the Quest for a New Utopia”
- Carlo Ratti, Associate Professor of the Practice Director, MIT SENSEable City Lab
- Dan Hill, Urbanist, Innovator, Future Cities Catapult as Executive Director of Futures and Best Practice
The conference will be chaired by Ger Baron, Program & Cluster Manager, Amsterdam Economic Board and Maarten Bouwhuis, Journalist with BNR Radio.
For the last 4 years, Amsterdam Smart City has been the official host of the annual Smart City event. In 2013, more than 450 delegates from 27 different countries attended the event and shared their knowledge & experiences about their own Smart City projects. The event will consist of a variety of activities, including round table sessions, lab sessions,, co-creation sessions, excursions and a breakfast meeting.

European Green Capital
The European Green Capital Award aims to reward achievements and efforts in advancing the sustainability of European cities. The Award was conceived to create a community of Europeans that share ideas and work together in order to help Europe achieve its targets and improve the quality of life of all Europeans. A green city is a smart city and this conference is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how smart a European Green Capital city can be.
