Resilient Cities 2013 Conference

31st May to 2nd June 2013, Bonn, Germany

The 4th Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation, also known as Resilient Cities 2013 conference, is taking place between the 31st May and 2nd June at the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut (GSI), in Bonn, Germany. The focus of the congress is to assist the worldwide local government representatives attending the meeting in urban resilience and climate change adaptation.

31.05.13 Resilient Cities Conference

In terms of harsh weather events bringing floods, landslides, hurricanes and droughts to urban areas, push has come to shove and cities are now aware of how vulnerable they are. When disasters occur, environmental, human and economic losses associated with them are extremely high. These effects can be mitigated with increased preparation and resilience, especially at the local level where disasters strike.

Throughout the Resilient Cities 2013 conference, and as part of a solution for cities to adapt to this new era, there will be a definite focus on:

  • Risk and vulnerability assessment
  • Adaptation and resilience planning and policy making
  • Multi-stakeholder and community-based collaboration
  • Governance
  • Implementing specific adaptation solutions
  • Financing resilience
  • Resilient Urban Food Systems

The full program is available here.

The three-day event will feature high profile international keynote speakers, such as ICLEI and UNEP/FAO representatives, who will offer global insight on the subject areas and highlight examples of international cities best practices.

The Resilient Cities 2013 conference will also feature the Resilient Urban Food Systems Forum, the Mayors Adaptation Forum, the “Open European Day” and “EU Cities Adapt” final conference, and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’s Workshop.
