‘Land as a resource’ Conference

The ‘Land as a resource’ Conference, hosted by the European Commission, will take place on 19th June 2014 at the Charlemange building in Brussels, Belgium. The objective of the Conference is to highlight the importance of good land management to address European and global challenges, particularly in view of an increasing world population.

The Conference will also tackle the shortcomings of the current European land use model, including conflicting policy drivers. It is part of the European Commission’s work in preparation of a Communication on land as a resource, expected for 2015.

The Conference will feature key-note speakers Janez Potočnik, Environmental Commissioner and Lester E. Brown, Director of the Earth Policy Institute (Washington D.C.).

Participation is free however it is limited to 400 people. Registration is now open.

European Green Capital Award

The European Green Capital Award grew out of an initiative launched by fifteen European cities and the Association of Estonian cities on 15th May 2006 in Tallin, Estonia. The selection of a city to be awarded the European Green Capital is assessed by an Expert Panel on the basis of twelve environmental indicators. One of the 12 indicators is the Green urban areas incorporating sustainable land use.
