European Mobility Week

European Mobility Week is taking place throughout Europe from 16th – 22nd September 2017. Mobility Week is a Europe-wide awareness raising campaign to promote the use of sustainable transport.

The theme this year, ‘Sharing gets you further’, promotes transport sharing to decrease the number of cars on the road. Research shows that every shared car could take 15 cars off the road, greatly reducing traffic congestion and pollution, and enhancing our urban environment.

Mobility Week provides local authorities with the opportunity to test measures, or ‘MOBILITYACTIONS’, that encourage people to switch from driving to more sustainable forms of transport. Past MOBILITYACTIONS, such as Walk to School on Wednesday (Limerick in Ireland), Free Bicycle Repair (Lillestrøm in Norway), and Shop Local Travel Local (Auchterarder Town in the UK), can all be found on the Mobility Week website. If you have a MOBILITYACTION you would like to promote, you can register it here.

Cities who take part in Mobility Week are also in with a chance to win a Mobility Award. Awards are given to cities based on their awareness raising activities during Mobility Week. Winners of last year’s awards were Malmö, winning the European Mobility Week (EMW) Award 2016, and Brussels, presented with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) Award for 2016.
