The selection of a city to be awarded the title of European Green Capital is assessed on the basis of twelve environmental indicator areas, including nature and biodiversity, eco innovation and energy performance. Copenhagen European Green Capital 2014 impressed the jury with plans for its North Harbour project. The project will include a “Green laboratory” that will focus on eco-technologies, a model that can be transferred to other towns and cities. This exemplary approach of green economic development tackling environmental, economic and social concerns has in fact high potential for replication in the region around the city and beyond.
