Energy Cities Annual Conference ‘2050 starts today’

The Energy Cities annual conference will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, on 26-28 April 2017. Stuttgart is a destination historically renowned for its industrial activity and more recently for its progressive climate and energy policy. Considering the transition undertaken in Stuttgart, it will be an ideal location to learn about societal, economic, technological and cultural changes that occur simultaneously with energy transition.

The conference will examine policy choices which influence stakeholder involvement in energy democracy, funding of local and low-carbon energy projects and transfer of powers to local levels.

Taking place over the 3 days are 50 interactive Q&A and debates sessions, keynote talks, a plenary debate, a mayors information session and knowledge transfer from Stuttgart through on site tours and lessons learnt from Lord Mayor Fritz Kuhn.

Three site visits include a tour of a school acting as a pilot project to transform into an energy-plus building, the redevelopment of surplus land in the city centre due to the Stuttgart 21 train station upgrade and a visit to the Alfred Kiess GmbH factory, a sustainable and carbon neutral business. The tours are grouped under Buildings, Urbanism and Sustainable Business.

Registration for the conference opens on 15 February and details of how to register will be found here.
