Today, the Covenant of Mayors is an outstanding vector of financial, social and technological innovations which encourage sustainable economic growth, job creation and improves citizens’ quality of life.

The European Green Capital Award aims to honour achievements and efforts in advancing the sustainability of European cities. The Award was conceived to create a community of Europeans that share ideas and work together help Europe achieve its targets and to improve the quality of life of all Europeans. This cannot be achieved by citizens alone and that is why the Covenant of Mayors is such an important community for the Award to have strong links with.
