European Conference “Climate Protection by means of Energy Efficiency”
13th & 14th February, Berlin, Germany
The European Conference “Climate Protection by means of Energy Efficiency will take place on 13th & 14th February 2014 in Berlin, Germany. The event is being organised by the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues and will focus on the synergy between user behaviour, technology and education, in achieving climate friendly use of schools and other public buildings.
The conference will discuss:
- the participation of building users in the planning and implementation of energy-related renovation and other efficiency measures;
- the implementation of energy saving projects in non-school public buildings and the motivation of adult users of those buildings; and
- the implementation of user motivation and energy saving projects in energy-efficient buildings.
The conference will start in the afternoon on February 13th with a visit to an efficiency project at a public building in Berlin, including a discussion with the head of the project and users of the building. Friday, 14th February, will be dedicated to the conference itself. One of the key note speakers will be Silke Karcher from the German Federal Ministry for Environment Protection, Department for Key Issues of European Climate and Energy Policies. The event is supported by the Federal Ministry of the Environment.

The European Green Capital Award
Energy performance is one of twelve environment indicators that are assessed by an Expert Panel in the selection of city to be awarded the European Green Capital . The aim of the award is to reward a city for its environmental achievements, on-going efforts and capacity to act as a role model for cities which are faced with similar problems.
