12th – 14th November, Melbourne, Australia
Thriving Neighbourhoods is an ICLEI initiative that encourages cross-sector cooperation to ensure that health, planning, design, infrastructure, IT and the built and natural environments are improved to the best standards. At the Thriving Neighbourhoods conference speakers will engage delegates on fresh emerging approaches to the planning, design and management of communities and cities that are set to radically improve the sustainability, liveability, health and productivity of communities.
Thriving Neighbourhoods recognises that the complexity of the systems involved in creating thriving communities poses difficult and challenging issues for planners, developers, managers and researchers. However there is a belief that the potential returns on the invested effort will be worth the struggle. It is necessary that a professional collaboration across policy sectors exists to truly capture these returns.
The two day event will be a combination of forums and workshops and will present new research and innovations. It will encourage the sharing of ideas and new technologies and process create a more sustainable, efficient urban community. In the same way, the European Green Capital Award encourages cities to examine every aspect of their city to allow its citizens to live in a way which lessens the impact on the environment, that is sustainable and that enriches their quality of life.
