Sustainable Foods Summit
7th June 2012, Amsterdam
The sixth edition of the Sustainable Foods Summit will take place on the 7th and 8th of June in Amsterdam. This event is part of a series of international summits that focuses on the sustainability of the food industry. This summit will have four dedicated forums discussing:
- Pioneering Sustainability Initiatives
- Sustainable Commodities
- Marketing & Distribution Innovations
- Food Authenticity
The food industry is a global multi-billion dollar industry and so achieving sustainability would have a large impact on the world. The Summit looks at the future of eco-labels and how they can better meet consumer needs. Sustainably produced ingredients, reduction of waste, and effective marketing are all key steps to achieve a sustainable industry. However this industry is also facing threats from foods posing as eco-label, fair trade or organic foods. This could damage consumer faith in authentic products and hinder their widespread adaption.
The Sustainable Foods Summit will be a carbon neutral event with any carbon and greenhouse gas emissions being offset by investing in soil composting projects. It will be attended by leading organisatons involved in sustainability and eco-labels in the food industry.
This year’s European Green Capital Vitoria-Gasteiz is the proud home to the delectable “GastroGreen” by MarmitaCo Restaurant. The menu was designed from local and seasonal products that are sustainably produced. The city is continuing this flavoursome trend during their Green Week (28th May – 10th June) there will be a cooking workshop titled “From Farm to Table” on Tuesday 5th of June (Click here to view).
