5th International Scientific Conference on “Energy and Climate Change”

11-12 October 2012, Athens, Greece

The PROMITHEAS Conference is an annual conference for scientists and researchers working in the area of energy and climate change policy. It began in 2008 with the 1st PROMITHEAS Conference titled “Energy Investments and Trade Opportunities”. This two day event focused on political and scientific topics. This year’s conference is titled “Energy and Climate Change” and will take place at the premises of NKUA in Athens, Greece on October 11-12 2012.

Promitheas Net is a network of 25 members from 16 countries of South East Europe, Black Sea, Caspian Sea and Central Asia. The Energy Policy and Development Centre (NKUA-KEPA), coordinator of the PROMITHEAS Net is an academic research institute (within the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). The network was set up to allow Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) member states to work together on issues relevant to energy and climate.

This two day event will focus on the political and scientific topics associated with energy and climate policy in the BSEC member states. As the Black Sea region moves towards a new phase of development, it has been acknowledged that members must cooperate especially in the context of the security of the EU energy supply as well as emerging regional energy and emission targets. Such cooperation encourages and supports the mobilization of human resources and assists scientific communities in becoming more familiar with procedures and activities.

Energy is an important aspect of every green city and the work done in conferences like the 5th International Scientific Conference paves the way for more European cities to provide a secure, sustainable supply of energy to its citizens. While judging the potential European Green Capital cities, the jury pays attention to the way in which the city manages its energy supply and the framework it has in place.
