“Tomorrow’s cities – leading the way on sustainable water management?” – A Workshop at Green Week

On Thursday, the 24th of May, between 14.30 and 16.00, representatives from the current European Green Capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, from the 2011 capital, Hamburg and also from the Committee of the Regions will showcase integrated and sustainable water management, including local actions that link water management and energy efficiency. The discussion will focus on cities that are leading the way with the sustainable management of water resources.
The workshop will have four main speakers; D. Javier Maroto Aranzabal, Mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz , Nichi Vendola, President Apulia Region, Italy; Europe 2020 Monitoring Platform Coordinator; Member of the Committee of the Regions , Christian Günner, Director, Hamburg Wasser, Germany and also Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso, President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia (ES), Covenant of Mayors Territorial Coordinator and Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.
“Tomorrow’s cities”, Hamburg and Vitoria-Gasteiz know the sustainable water management is the key to being a Green Capital of Europe and ensure it is at the forefront of their city agendas, including topics such as; joint river basin management, flood and drought management, water efficiency measures, and providing clean drinking water and waste water treatment.
