17th – 25th November 2012, Across Europe

The European Week for Waste Reduction week (EWWR) focuses on highlighting waste reduction activities across Europe and raising awareness of ways to reduce our waste. The EWWR lasts for 9 days and takes place from the 17th to 25th of November 2012.

The EWWR is a 3 year project supported by the LIFE+ Programme of the European Commission and began in 2009. Since its beginning, more than 7.000 awareness raising actions on waste prevention have been implemented in through the framework of the EWWR. Its key aims are to raise awareness about waste reduction strategies and about the policies of the European Union and its Member States on this subject, to promote sustainable waste reduction activities throughout Europe, to highlight the work accomplished by various contributors, through detailed examples of waste reduction and to encourage changes in the behaviour of Europeans with regard to consumption, production and waste in everyday life.

Waste reduction and management is one of the 12 assessment criteria that applicant cities are evaluated on when entering the European Green Capital Award competition. For more information on this click here
