Engineers Week 2013, Bringing dreams to life

25th February to 3rd March 2013, across Ireland

06.02.13 engineers weekEngineers Week will be celebrated across Ireland this month with a week long programme of nationwide events to highlight the world of engineering. Engineers Week aims to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about engineering to citizens of all ages. The events will showcase engineering as an exciting and diverse career option and promote engineers in the community.

Throughout the week, engineers are encouraged to visit their local schools while both small and large organisations, as well as universities, libraries and educational centres get involved in hosting events at national and local levels. Participating in Engineers Week is of great benefit to the community, in addition to providing benefits for the individual engineer and the profession as a whole. Engineers Week is a wonderful opportunity for organisations to invest in corporate social responsibility and will improve the understanding of engineers’ contribution to society. Engineers Week is entering its sixth successive year and is coordinated on a national basis by Engineers Ireland as part of the STEPS programme.

The European Green Capital Award aims to improve the European urban living environment and thus the environment as a whole. As 3 out of 4 Europeans live in an urban environment, it is natural that cities play a key role in making the environment greener and improving the quality of life of its citizens. Ireland recently celebrated the beginning of its 2013 Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) with a ceremony at Dublin Castle. The New Year’s Eve ceremony also celebrated the 40th anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the EU and the start of the Year of Citizens in Europe (EYC2013). Dublin is also a finalist for the 2015 European Green Capital Award.
