ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards Showcase and Awards Ceremony 2012

08 May 2012, Dublin, Ireland

The ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards is Ireland’s biggest celebration of youth-led ECO-Action. With over 60 projects on display and over 600 young people present to represent their groups the Showcase & Awards Ceremony will be an energetic celebration of young peoples work in environmental protection, sustainable development and active citizenship.

ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards is an all-Ireland environmental awards programme that recognises and rewards young people who raise environmental awareness and improve the environment. The programme is open to any group of young people in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland between 10 – 18 years of age.

This year, out of over 200 project entries from thousands of young people across Ireland and Northern Ireland, 60 fantastic projects have been shortlisted for the finals and to take part in the Gala Showcase and Awards Ceremony at the Awards Ceremony.

The Showcase will be formally opened by the Lord Mayor of Dublin and will be followed by the Awards Ceremony.

Raising environmental awareness and active citizenship are integral to the European Green Capital Award, and are part of what the Jury look at when they are assessing the short listed cities that have made it through. The Jury examines what has the city done to communicate to its citizens on various environmental issues and looks at the city’s capacity to act as a role model to inspire other cities, promote best practices and spread the EGC model further – bearing in mind city size and location – including the city’s EGC communication strategy if they are to win.
