ChemWater 3rd Workshop

5th September, Brussels

On the 5th of September ChemWater 3rd Workshop “Vision 2050: Materials, processes, technologies on Water Sustainable Process Industry” is held in Brussels. The aim of this sequence of workshops is to develop a strategy for a water sustainable industry by 2050. Delegates will discuss tools and methodologies that are necessary to realise the vision. This workshop will focus on processes, materials and technologies needed to reach the goals that were identified on previous workshops.

ChemWater is a European Commission funded project under the seventh Framework Programme. It was established as a response to a key pan-European concern – the efficient management of water in the process industry. The project started in May 2011 and ends in October 2013.

Water is a resource which is often misused. Conservative use of the water is essential to preserve the resource and prevent shortages, pollution and loss of biodiversity. The ChemWater 3rd Workshop will be an active discussion on the allocation of skills, competencies, coordination and funding needed to create a water sustainable process industry. Industries that will be focused on include chemical process engineering, process design development of nano materials and emerging water treatment technologies.

Water and the European Green Capital Award

Water consumption is one of the twelve environmental indicators used to assess applications by cities applying to become the European Green Capital. The 2012 European Green Capital Vitoria-Gasteiz has an ambitious objective of reducing domestic water consumption to below 100 litres per capita per day. Today the water consumption in Vitoria-Gasteiz, has decreased steadily from 1999 to 2009. Water-related investments have been made within the context of the Agenda 21 environmental action plan for improved water supply, to reduce losses, work towards sustainable consumption and improve water quality. A citizen’s information office on water consumption and efficiency has also been set up. Fore more information on what Vitoria-Gasteiz is doing click here
