4th International Conference of Ocean Energy

17th-19th October 2012, Dublin

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), in association with the International ICOE Committee, the European Ocean Energy Association and the IEA-OES, is hosting the 4th International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) from Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th October 2012, at the Convention Centre Dublin. The event occurs every two years and is focused on the industrial development of renewable marine energy.

This year the main themes of the conference include: ocean power generation technologies, performance and environmental issues, marine renewable energy economics and policies, ocean energy device components and deployment, and operation and maintenance of devices. A full list of themes can be found here:

International experts and world-leading companies in ocean energy and related sectors will present over a hundred papers on themes important to growing this new marine industry. Players will get the opportunity to share experiences and discuss the factors influencing the ocean energy industry. There will also be an exhibition where entrepreneurs will showcase the latest technologies in harnessing renewable from the sea. One of the intentions of the event is networking and it is expected that many fortunate partnerships will arise from the conference.

Ireland is an excellent choice for the 4th International Conference on Ocean Energy as it lays claim to a very promising ocean energy industry. The island possesses two state of the art test centres – The Hydraulics and Maritime Research Centre in the University of Cork and The Marine Institute in Galway Bay. These centres have helped progress Irish ocean energy technologies with some nearing commercial status.

Energy performance and eco-innovation are two of the 12 Environmental Indicators that cities are assessed on when applying for the European Green Capital Award. Ocean energy is a clean, renewable source of energy for electricity generation.
