The Second Smart Cities Summit: Creating Smart, Sustainable Cities to Drive Economic Growth
25th September, Dublin, Ireland
Dublin will promote the European Green Capital Award when the city hosts the second Smart Cities Conference in September. The conference will examine how Irish cities and regions can join the ranks of Europe’s most economically successful and sustainable cities. The Conference will take place at the Croke Park Conference Centre, Dublin City on the 25th of September 2012 and delegates from the EU are welcome.
If cities are to flourish economically, city dwellers must have a clean and healthy urban environment. The Smart City can enhance the lives of citizens, encourage business to invest and create a sustainable urban environment. A Smart City can be a Green City.
The European Green Capital Award is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sustainable urban living. The European Commission has long recognised the importance that Cities play in improving the environment, and their high level of commitment to genuine progress. The European Green Capital Award was conceived as an initiative to promote and reward these efforts, to spur cities to commit to further action, and to showcase and encourage exchange of best practice among European cities.
The European Green Capital winning cities in 2012 and 2013 are Vitoria-Gasteiz and Nantes respectively. As the growth engine of national economies, cities are increasingly challenged to improve their competitiveness.
