Award Ceremony, European Green Capital 2014
29 June 2012, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain
On the 29th of June, one of the 3 shortlisted cities will be crowned the 2014 European Green Capital. The ceremony will take place in the beautiful Palacio Montehermoso in Vitoria-Gateiz, Spain, the European Green Capital for this year. The shortlisted cities are Bristol, Copenhagen and Frankfurt. Representatives from all over Europe will be in attendance to hear whether Bristol, Copenhagen or Frankhurt will take the title. Noteworthy guests will include Janez Potocnik, the European Commissioner for the Enviroment and Mercedes Bressso, President of EU’s Committee of the Regions.
The day, which will culminate in the award ceremony, will begin with a workshop (in the Palacio Villa Suso) with representatives participating from the present European Green Capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, past winners- Stockholm and Hamburg and also the European Green Capital for 2013, Nantes. The key topic will be “Green policies as a competitive advantage in cities.” The workshop will also involve a round table discussion with representatives from the three shortlisted cities for the 2014 competition title; Bristol, Copenhagen and Frankfurt, on the “Key to being a green city in 2014”.
Vitoria-Gasteiz will later showcase why they are the European Green Capital in 2012, through a visit to one of their most noteworthy environmental initiatives; the Green Belt and also optional guided tours of the city.
