12th National Bioenergy Conference: Utilising Ireland’s Natural Resource
21st February 2013
Ireland is hosting its 12th National Bioenergy Conference, focusing on the topic ‘Utilising Ireland’s Natural Resource’. The event will be held on the 21st February in the Lyrath Hotel, Kilkenny and is being run by the Irish Bioenergy Association (IrBEA). Speakers which will be announced shortly on the IrBEA website will include Government representatives and experts in the field.
The conference will examine the current status of the bioenergy industry in Ireland and aims to describe the technical, legislative and political issues relevant to the bioenergy sector. This event is also a valuable networking opportunity for those in the industry.
IrBEA are the Irish national association for the bioenergy industry and seek to increase an understanding of issues related to harvesting biomass and using it to generate energy such as heat, electricity or motion. Their aim is to promote biomass as an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable energy resource.
The citizens and local authorities of Dublin, Ireland, are showing their high level of commitment to genuine progress in green growth and sustainability as an applicant for the 2015 European Green Capital Award. Cities are first assessed on the basis of 12 environmental indicators of which energy performance is one. Each of the cities shortlisted for the 2015 award presents their vision, action plan and communication strategy to the Jury. The winning city will be announced in the 2013 European Green Capital Nantes in June this year.
Ireland recently celebrated the beginning of its 2013 Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) with a ceremony at Dublin Castle. The New Year’s Eve ceremony also celebrated the 40th anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the EU and the start of the ‘Year of Citizens’ in Europe (EYC2013).
